Frequently asked
questions
Everything you want to know about Libraire — summaries, billing, privacy, and more.
How accurate are the summaries?
Libraire uses a multi-stage pipeline — extract, summarize, then refine — rather than a single prompt. This means the output is checked and improved before you see it. For text you paste or PDFs you upload, accuracy is very high. For title-only queries, the AI draws on its training data, which may not reflect the most recent editions or niche titles.
What summary styles are available?
Libraire offers five distinct output modes:
- Ultra-short — 5 crisp bullet points, ideal for quick decisions
- Standard prose — flowing narrative, great for sharing
- Detailed chapters — section-by-section breakdown
- Takeaways + action items — practical insights to apply immediately
- Custom goal — you define the reading goal, AI shapes the summary around it (Pro/Growth plans)
You can regenerate any saved summary in a different style at any time — no re-uploading required.
How long does a summary take to generate?
Most summaries complete in under 60 seconds. Large PDFs or complex multi-stage summaries may take a bit longer. A live real-time progress tracker shows exactly which stage your summary is in — so you're never left guessing.
What file types can I upload?
PDFs are fully supported with smart page chunking for long documents — even entire books. Text pasting works for any source you can copy. ePub and Word document support is on the roadmap for a future release.
Is there a length limit for pasted text or PDFs?
For pasted text, there's a generous character limit (enough for a full chapter or more). For PDFs, our smart chunker handles multi-hundred-page books by processing them in intelligent segments. Very large PDFs may take a bit longer, but are fully supported on all plans.
Can I export or download my summaries?
Yes — from the summary view you can copy to clipboard, download as Markdown (compatible with Notion, Obsidian, and most writing tools), or print directly. All export options are available on every plan including free.
How does the free trial work?
New accounts get a 7-day trial with up to 2 summaries total during that window — no credit card required. After 7 days from signup, you’ll need a paid plan to generate new summaries. You can still read and export everything already in your library.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel anytime through your account's billing portal — powered by Stripe. Go to Settings → Billing, and click "Manage billing". No need to contact support; it takes about 30 seconds. Your subscription continues until the end of the current billing period.
What happens to my summaries if I downgrade or cancel?
Nothing is deleted. All your summaries remain in your private library forever. Cancelling reverts billing to the free tier rules (7-day trial limits are counted from your original account signup). You can still read, export, and search past summaries — new generations require an active paid plan once the trial window has ended or the trial summary cap is reached.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes — all paid plans come with a 7-day satisfaction guarantee. If you're not happy for any reason within 7 days of subscribing, email us at hi@bookbriefai.com and we'll refund you in full, no questions asked.
Do unused summaries roll over to the next month?
Currently, monthly allocations reset at the start of each billing cycle and don't roll over. We're evaluating credit rollover as a feature for a future update. The free trial allows up to 2 summaries within the first 7 days after signup (they do not roll past that window).
Is my content private and secure?
Absolutely. Your summaries are only ever visible to you — they're stored in your private library, and we have no mechanism to share them with other users. Uploaded PDFs are processed in memory and are not stored on our servers beyond the processing job. We never use your content to train AI models.
What data do you collect?
We collect your email address (to identify your account), your summary history (stored in your private library), and standard server logs (IP, timestamps) for security and abuse prevention. We do not sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Are my PDFs stored after processing?
No. Uploaded PDFs are processed in a temporary job and are not retained on our servers after the summary is generated. Only the resulting summary text is stored in your library.
Which AI model powers Libraire?
Libraire uses a multi-stage pipeline built on top of leading large language models. We don't tie ourselves to a single provider — we choose the best model for each stage of the pipeline (extraction, summarization, refinement) to maximize quality.
Do you have an API?
A public API is on our roadmap. If you're interested in API access for integrations or building on top of Libraire, reach out to hi@bookbriefai.com — we'd love to hear your use case.
Can I use Libraire for academic or commercial purposes?
Yes — summaries you generate are yours to use for personal, academic, or commercial purposes. We simply ask that you don't resell the Libraire platform itself or misrepresent AI-generated summaries as independent human analysis. See our Terms of Service for the details.
